Dr Julian Hickman, Partner

Julian has been running client investments as a fund manager since 1999. He created Cazenove's private client IFA business, before moving to Longbow Capital, and then establishing Juno with Ed in 2011. Within venture capital he built Longbow’s private client business, establishing a series of EIS and VCT funds for IFAs and their clients.

With Ed, he has been an investor in all of the venture businesses that they have supported.

Julian has considerable experience of managing EIS qualifying investments and advising investors on the intricacies of the tax benefits associated with investing in venture. He has a particular interest in the UK's venture sector and the effectiveness of IFAs and private clients in supporting later stage investment into companies in this sector. One of Juno's aims is to increase the engagement of IFAs and High Net Worth investors with venture stage businesses.

Before joining the financial services industry Julian was an Army pilot, flying helicopters in the UK and Canada, as well as the jungles of Brunei, Kenya and Belize. He continues to fly as an instructor and holds a CAA Formation and Aerobatic Display Authorisation. He is a director of the Army’s Historic Aircraft Flight Trust and a display pilot for their aircraft.

Julian has a PhD from Swansea, an MBA from Henley, and is a Chemistry graduate from Durham. He is an Honorary Research Fellow at Swansea’s School of Management.
